Kizu — 傷 — a Japanese word for scar. The mark life leaves behind.
This YaYu carries their marks openly. The scars are raised in the clay itself — chaotic, textured, weaving across the body like ornament. They read less like damage and more like pattern: something the body made, not something done to it. On their head sits a small curl, like a thought — but this one is broken, and only half remains.
The piece came from thinking about imperfection. About the marks we all collect — on the skin, and deeper — and how easily we treat them as things to hide. But these imprints are part of the path. They are how a person becomes exactly who they are, and no one else.
I wanted to imagine scars not as flaws, but as patterns of becoming.
