This is the first work in The Carried — the series where the body of the YaYu is left unglazed and only the object above it is glazed. 

Here the shell is blue and glossy, resting on bare stoneware. The contrast is the structure of the piece: the body simply exists, the memory shines.

The shell comes from the courtyard where I grew up in Kherson.

Snails were the creatures I looked for after rain — slow, soft, carrying their houses with them wherever they went. The city itself I can no longer return to.
