Crying Vase, 2025
Hand-built glazed stoneware, 2025
19x17,5x12,5 cm
One of a kind
A vessel with eyes all around its body, and a tear falling from each one.
This was the first time I made it. The form came before the idea — and when it was finished, it felt so alive that I wanted it to be able to look back at me, the way I was looking at it. So I gave it eyes. The tears followed on their own.
Everything here is glazed and smooth: the cream body, the coloured ribbons, the small blue drops. This is how I worked then — every surface covered, every piece dressed before it met the world.
I won't tell you what the crying is for. Tears are not one thing. They come with grief, and with relief. With loss, and sometimes with beauty. This vase looks at whoever stands in front of it — and holds a little of them, too.
Half a year later, I made this vase again — in a different language. The two exist side by side now: the same tears, before and after I stopped covering the surface.
